Hollywood’s Waning Creativity – Infographic

This infographic shows how there wasn’t a single movie in the top 10 in 2011 that was an original.

This is really sad.

New Words With Friends Cheat Launch

So yeah, I use the Words With Friends Cheat website.  I play a lot.  I used always play legit, but to be honest, I just don’t have the time.  It takes too long to figure out words and find the right placement.  I guess I justify by telling myself I don’t want to make my friends wait so long for me to take a turn.  I do, at least have some rules about it.  I won’t play any word that I don’t know and I definitely won’t use a full cheat board site like Scrabble Cheat.  That definitely takes all the fun and any skill out of it.  On the Words With Friends Cheat site, you still have to figure out how to place the words on the board and you can argue it if you’d like, but that is still a big portion of the strategy of the game.

Anyway, I’ve gotten way off track with this post.  The whole reason for posting is that they just re-launched the site with more content and a slick new interface.  The other cool thing about the site re-launch is that you can still get to the old site.  I’ve never seen a website do that before, so it seemed like a pretty good idea.

Zombie Gingers on Turntable.fm

I Logged into turntable.fm this week and headed for my favorite room, which has become my morning routine during weekdays at the office.  Something was different though.  All my TT friends had new avatars that were Halloween themed.  I’ll awesome that!  I’ve been wanted them to expand their avatars for a while.  Even though this is a temporary addition, I’m guessing this is an indicator that they’ll either continue adding season themed avatars or possibly add more permanent ones.

YouTube – Old Playlist Editor Vs. New Playlist Editor

YouTube recently launched their revamped playlist editor and it’s getting a TON of negative feedback.  In addition to the typical complaints of people who just don’t like a new interface, there are a lot of posts about it actually not working correctly.  It’s difficult to delete items, add items and managing the order of large playlists is virtually impossible.  The drag and drop sorting is great for playlists of 4 to 5 videos, but for anything more than 10, it basically can’t be used.

I have over 500 videos on my YouTube channel and have around 20 playlists.  Most playlists have more than 15 videos.  I wasn’t a fan of the old list, but at least it worked.

For those that don’t like the new playlists, here are the instructions for getting the old playlist back.  This may only be a temporary fix though, YouTube could delete the old pages at any time, so use it while you can.

Go to the Edit Playlist page for any playlist in your channel.  From there you can get the YouTube Playlist ID that you will need to access the old editor for this playlist.
Once you are there, look at the URL in your address bar.

It will look like this:
1) The new style URL looks like this:
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?action_edit=1&list=123456789012345678

Where 123456789012345678 is the ID for your playlist.

Now copy and paste this into the address bar:
http://www.youtube.com/my_playlists?p=123456789012345678

Again, make sure and replace the dummy playlist ID with your playlist ID.
This will bring up the old YouTube Playlist Editor.

Edit and save.  Good luck.  Enjoy this while you can, I’m sure they’ll delete this page at some point.

RIP: Rilo Kiley Breaks Up

Rolling Stone is reporting that apparently Rilo Kiley has split up.  Blake Sennett in an interview said that it’s basically been over since the 2007 Under The Blacklight tour ended.  He didn’t really have many good words to say about the rest of the band, but didn’t mention specific members.  It’s common knowledge that he and Jenny Lewis were involved at points during the life of band and that may have something to do with it also.  He specially stated that there wouldn’t be a reunion and there would be no new possibly, but did say that there was plans for a 2-disc set of previously recorded material that should be released soon.

Hanging With Friends Cheater

How can you not love Zynga’s new iOS game, Hanging With Friends?  It’s got the slick interface of it’s older cousin, Words With Friends combined with the ease gameplay of the first word game you learned as a child – hangman.  Of course there are some new twists, but the basic premise of classic hangman game is at the core.

You build words for someone to guess, you solve words that they’ve built for you and you play head to head, just like all the “Games With Friends” series.  The thing I’m really enjoying about Hanging, is you can have 5-6 games going on, but they don’t eat up a lot of time, like Words With Friends can.  You can pick it up in line at the grocery, at a stoplight or while you’re on the phone with an annoying client and solve or build a word in just a quick minute or so – AND without using much brain power.  Sometimes, I let turns on Words With Friends linger on, because I can’t quite get that high scoring word that I’m looking for.

So, now, to the “In Secret” part of this post.  I have to confess, that on the rare occasion, when I’m getting my ass handed to me, I’ve been known to use one of the Hanging With Friends Cheat Sites.  I know.  Lame.  That’s why this is slugged as: In Secret.  Fine.  I cheat.  You probably just used the internet to look at porn, so chill.  Anyway, hangingwithfriendscheat.org is by far the best cheat site.  It’s got a solver and a word builder.  Most of the other help sites have only one or the other.  It also has a Suggest Next Letter feature that tells you what letter you should guess next (from a pure probability standpoint).  Good stuff.  Finally, if you want to cheat at Words With Friends, go here: http://www.wordswithfriendscheat.net/.  Enough confessions for a day.  Out.

SPAM From Friends’ Hacked Email Accounts

I’m Chinese and we Asians love our Spam.  Yes, for real.  We cook it in stir fry, we eat it straight and Jack In The Box restaurants in Hawaii, where I have a lot of relatives, even have Spam items on their regular menu.  Email Spam is a different story.

The last couple of days, I’ve been getting a lot of odd SPAMMY emails from friends.  The emails have some horrible Engrish non-sense, like “Feel yourself like a celebrity!..” and “Rid of your impotence!.”  Then a link with an affiliate ID that takes you to sites to purchase things like Hydrocodone or Viagry at a Canadian Pharmacy.

I haven’t seen emails like this in a long time and I’ve been trying to help friends determine where they are coming from.
Again, the senders are friends.  They emails seem to be sent to 5-10 people at a time and they are blocks straight from their address books.
One was from a friend’s Yahoo account and another was from a friend’s AOL account.

In both cases, they were still able to log into their accounts, so their credentials weren’t altered, but there was also no traces left behind in the Sent Items folder either.

Very, very strange.  Anyone have any insight?

HTML Email Gaps Between Tables and Images in Gmail

After nearly all day of struggling to figure out why a recent HTML email didn’t look right in Gmail, we finally found the answer.

We coded the template and sent out test emails from MailChimp. It looked perfect in Outlook, Hotmail, Yahoo and others, but there were gaps in between tables in Gmail and gaps around some of the images. We used FireBug to try and pinpoint the problem, but even stripping all styles out didn’t work. We even took out all spacing between lines of code. This didn’t solve the layout problems in Gmail either.

We then switched to StreamSend, because we thought it might be some of the styles or other additional code that MailChimp was adding in. Nope. Same thing. HTML Email looked perfect everywhere else, but not Gmail.

After spending nearly the entire day troubleshooting, we finally found the fix.
You have the add a display-block style to every image tag in the email and it will display perfectly in Gmail.

Here is an example image tag with the style added to fix the Gmail issues:

Hopefully this will help you as much as it helped me.

Radulov Gives Jason Arnott A Concussion During Goal Celebration

This is so crazy.  I never heard about this.

In 2008, the Nashville Predators beat the Detroit Redwings in game 3 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs series.  Nashville scored 2 goals in 9 seconds.  Jason Arnott scored the game winning goal and his teammate Alexander Radulov skated over and jumped on him, just as Arnott was turned around to face the bench, accidentally slamming his head straight into the boards.

You can see in the video below, Arnott goes straight down to the ice and has a hard time getting back up again.  Then, at the end of the clip, you see him barely making it to the bench.  He’s clearly dazed and is very wobbly on his skates.  He played the next game, but didn’t play in the playoffs again that season.

It was kept under wraps until the end of Nashville’s playoff run, but it was later revealed that Jason Arnott got a concussion from that incedent.

I was watching the Washington Capitols game tonight and they were talking about this game and how Arnott will not celebrate any goals now, because of that.  Crazy story.

Here’s the video on YouTube:
